Journal 8 (second module)

In this session, I learned useful information about the second layer of the CDA framework proposed by Fairclough. In this section, it is emphazised the “the point” of the text, that is the summary interpretation of the text, which is stored in our long-term memory and is easy to recall. Another important aspect of the "Interpretation" stage is the Member Resources: assumnptions, values, beliefs, etc. So, it focuses on the social context and the background knowledge we have about the topic of the text.

1.    Situational context:

Situation: What’s going on? activity, purpose, topic; who is involved? in what relations? What is the role of the language?

Discourse type: contents, subjects, relations, connections.

2.    Intertextual context: Any situation interpretation is influenced by other background text or experiences. (something that is presupposed “taken for granted”) presuppositions can be manipulative, or sincere.
